Anmol and Johannes

We first met in September 2015 during an Internations event at a bar in Aachen. Anmol had only moved to Germany 10 days before that. At the time we were both students. Anmol was doing her Master’s degree in Mechatronics at FH Aachen and Johannes was studying English and German to become a teacher at RWTH Aachen.

Six months later, we met at another Internations event and had a long conversation about a lot of things. As a result, we exchanged numbers. Very soon after, we started dating. In the picture, we are celebrating Johannes’ 26th birthday together on 11th May 2016. This is one of our first pictures together.

What first attracted Anmol to Johannes was the obvious height and the good looks but what made move forward to the actual first date was the discovery that Johannes is a dancer! That too Latin-American formation dancer!

Johannes got attracted to Anmol’s sheer energy, the fact that she was exotic and interesting. He is also a massive foodie, so dating an Indian girl meant he would get to eat a lot of authentic Indian food

In August 2016, we combined originally separate plans near Chicago to spend some more great times together. In this context, Johannes also met Anmol’s Mama, Ankur Soni, for the first time.

We already celebrated Christmas together with Johannes’ family in 2016. From the left: Johannes’ father, his two brothers, Anmol and Johannes. (Johannes’ mother took the picture).

2017

In January 2017, we travelled to India together and Johannes met Anmol’s family. In this context, Johannes also got the chance to meet (late) Sanjay, Anmol’s father. By god’s grace, Johannes already asked for his permission to marry his daughter at that time. Also, he met Anubha mummy, Anita Bua, Harsh bhai and Pradeep (Anmol’s mu bola bhai) for the first time.

In December 2017, we travelled to St. Louis, Missouri, USA, together to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s with Anmol’s family. In the pictures, you can see Johannes with Anmol’s Nana and Nani, Anmol’s mother, Nidhi mausi and Gregg mausaji, her American husband.

2018

In December 2018, Anmol’s mother visited Germany (and Europe) for the first time. This image shows the three of us and two of our best friends (Harshal and Nikitha) during a daytrip to Gent, Belgium.

This is again the three of us plus Johannes’ parents at our old apartment in Aachen. Anubha, Anmol’s mother, met Johannes’ parents, August and Conny, for the first time.

2019

On 15th November 2019, FH Aachen held their convocation and Anmol attended it together with Johannes and received her official master’s degree certificate.

2020-2021

In October 2019, Anmol finally found a job, which unfortunately was in Stuttgart, and later Johannes found a permanent position as a Vocational College Teacher in Euskirchen. This meant that we had to live in a long-distance relationship for two years, until October 2021. In these two years we travelled back and forth to meet each other whenever we could and went on a couple of vacations together.

These two years were very tough, due to our individual professional struggles, covid restrictions and especially Anmol’s father passing in the second wave of covid. We managed to get through these situations together and came out only stronger. Then finally in October 2021 Anmol started a different job in Cologne, which allowed her to move in with Johannes in Euskirchen.

2022

The year 2022 was very important because in May we decided to get married. Marriage had been the obvious next step for us for a long time, we just wanted to actually live together again with stable jobs before taking this decision.

In June 2022 Anmol’s family visited us/Europe and both families officially met each other. In this context we also announced our engagement to everyone. At our apartment in Euskirchen, with Nidhi mausi, Gregg mausaji, our little cousin sister Aanvi, Anubha mummy, Harsh bhai, Anita Bua, Johannes’ parents August & Conny, Harshal and Nikitha

Similar group as before, this time at Johannes’ parents’ house in Aachen.

We used this opportunity for a road trip to a few countries in Europe with Anmol’s family.

On 8th October 2022, we got married legally in the oldest town of Denmark called Ribe. The paperwork for a legal marriage in Germany or in India was very complicated, and Denmark offers an easier solution for everyone. Apart from us, the wedding party consisted of all of 5 people: Johannes’ parents, Harsh, Harshal and Nikitha.

And as you can see, we were lucky enough to have our Hindu shaadi exactly one year later, on our first wedding anniversary!
